The best answer for chronic anxiety (neurotic?) is to read 'the consolations of philosophy', and to understand the principle that things could always be worse for others. Positive empathy then arises, compassion, and when we, thus, begin concern ourselves with the welfare of others (other sentient beings), our tendency for negative-anxiety-ridden narcissism tends to subside.. We can be positive about ourselves as well as others, & fix things where they need fixing.. I think.
