@hambone307 If no sound comes out make sure to rosin the bow enough to make sound but not too much that it makes a scratchy like noise. Tension it all depends on how loud, fast, soft, or slow if you wish to go soft but fast make sure to tip the bow away so half of the bow hair is touching the strings and also make sure to have enough energy on arm to go fast. The same applies for loud but slow except u apply all hair nd go slow. If you still want more advice ask I'll be checking here :)

@JesusAvalenzuela How much rosin? just got a new bow and fixed up my great uncles fiddle and I have no idea how much rosin should be used, how much tension i should put on the bow, etc. help would be greatly appreciated.

been playin guitar for the last nine years and finally picked up my great uncles fiddle. This lesson here was great in showing how to work the neck of the violin. it is similar to guitar but using a bow so far has been the hardest part. Great lesson, many thanks.

This has been the most helpful video. No ego, involved-just humble helpful and skilled.
