Hunter Hancock was the first disc jockey on the west coast to play rhythm and blues music. There were many musicians in Los Angeles that credited Hunter Hancock with exposing them to this music that wasn't being played on white radio radio until Hunter came along.
On March 4, 2000 the Doo-Wop Society of Southern California paid tribute to this man with a special show in Long Beach, California that featured Big Jay McNeely, the Calvanes, Johnny Flamingo, Jeanette Baker, and a handful of other great performers. On this video clip, shown for the very first time in public, you'll see a very emotional Hunter Hancock presented with some nice accolades, a short excerpt of Big Jay McNeely performing in concert, and a brief photo montage of his career, using his official "Hunting with Hunter" radio theme in the background. Some of the other people you'll see in this video are Jewel Akens, Steve Propes, Jim Dawson, and Billy Foster of the Medallions.
There's a nice little overview of the show at this webpage:

I am a former member of the DWS and have attended every show since the first one. I remember you guys and have probably talked to you. Denny Bardone used to video tape ALL the shows and I am sure you know him and his wife Phyllis who was the PREZ of DWS and hired your group...lol

I don't remember Denny Bardone. I was not hired to videotape. I did it all on my own dime, capturing material for my documentary.
