Red Alert is based on alternate history. The Soviets were the first to invent the atom bomb in RA where as the West (Allies) were the first ones to send a sattilite into orbit. (the C&C storyline is a switcharound of early cold war history)

awsome i still own my original C&C RED ALERT THE AFTER MATH jewel case with all the discs in it i set up a virtual pc so i can play it ,man it takes me back the audio is glitchy it says everything twice but the game play is still awsome i will be working on a way to upload some skirmish footage so keep a look out for it in the near future.

@mhop08 A Virtual Machine? RA doesn't need a virtual machine to work... it just, works. The only problem on modern PCs is the installer. See the official commandandconquer forum (RA -> support section) for a simple 3-step guide to install the game on machines that don't want to run its installer anymore.

@zibafu The install guide? Look on Google for "How to install Red Alert 1 on 64-bit systems" (WITH the quotes) and it should be the first result.

@i0nPuNk182 Eh what? Don't go comparing stuff in the wrong order. This looks like an R-7 Semyorka, the rocket with which the Sputnik was put into space. Heck, the satellite itself is a Sputnik model too.
