I live in Memphis, Tennessee. We have three female African elephants, one of which delivered a calf yesterday. Sadly, this morning the mother accidentally gored the calf and although zoo staff did everything they could to safe it, an hour after the accident, the calf died. Please keep the staff of the Memphis Zoo in your thoughts and prayers.

wtf? I have never said anything different from what you are saying. I said they naturally chain the mother because she might hurt her child. Honestly, what are you trying to tell me? Do you think I believe those elephants enjoy being in a zoo? Anyone can guess they don`t.

yes, he is!!!! ;-)

if you were confined to a small artificially created man made concrete area for life (like a prisoner) you too might accidently hurt your own child... give me a break... having a 6 ft semi-circle of area to move around in would not make any being happy!!! there are no walls in a natural habitat for large/wild animals... there are natural conservation in these animals home countries too were they can live, thrive, be free and be happy!
Don't like.. mom is chained...

i work at this zoo and i have to say even though i dont enjoy having the animals chained, and most times they arent, it was just a precaution so she wouldnt step on baby scotty.
If these animals werent in captivity though, thered be a good chance that the species would be excinct in the near future, near being around 2010 or 2012. you think we are being cruel, but in reality we are savind the species...
