Equilibrium ist eine deutsche Pagan-Metal-Band aus Bayern.
Equilibrium wurde 2001 von René Berthiaume, Helge Stang, Sandra Völkl und Andreas Völkl in Maisach bei München gegründet. Der Name wurde spontan gewählt, da die Veranstalter eines Konzertes für ihre Flyer einen Namen brauchten. Damals war die stilistische Richtung der Band noch nicht klar, da Equilibrium ausschließlich Coverversionen spielte. Daher wählte man „Equilibrium, denn so konnte man sich musikalisch noch frei bewegen, ohne dass man einen unpassenden Namen hat. Aus Spaß wird er von der Band manchmal mit dem Begriff aus der Psychologie erklärt, wo er für „das Gleichgewicht zwischen Akkommodation und Assimilation steht.

Im Jahr 2003 produzierte die Band ein Demo, mit welchem sie beim Plattenlabel Black Attakk einen Vertrag über ein Album unterzeichnen konnten. Die Aufnahmen zum Debütalbum Turis Fratyr fanden in den Helion Studios in München statt. Das Album wurde von René Berthiaume selbst produziert. Die Veröffentlichung war anfangs für das Jahr 2004 angesetzt, wurde jedoch mehrmals verschoben. Am 31. Januar 2005 erschien schließlich Turis Fratyr bei Black Attakk. Dieses Album beinhaltet neben neuen Liedern auch neu abgemischte Aufnahmen der Demo 2003. Im Oktober 2006 unterzeichnete Equilibrium einen Vertrag über mehrere Alben bei Nuclear Blast.

Im Juli 2007 begann die Band die Aufnahmen zu ihrem neuen Album Sagas, welches nach mehreren Terminverschiebungen am 27. Juni 2008 erschien und auf Anhieb Platz 30 der Media-Control-Charts erreichte.

Equilibrium is a folk metal band from Germany. The band contains various elements of folk and symphonic black metal, combining instruments such as electric guitars, strings and flutes, as well as riffs which reflect traditional Germanic melodies. They are relatively new to the black metal scene but have had a lot of success, especially with their debut album Turis Fratyr and now with their last album Sagas and the recent European tour "Paganfest".

The lyrical themes of Equilibrium include Germanic tales and Germanic mythology. All the titles and lyrics are in German.

The group toured with Commander and Sycronomica in 2005.

In 2006, Equilibrium signed with Nuclear Blast.
