Sorry for not having posted for months! I have been swamped with two part-time jobs and full-time school at two different campuses. Anyway, this will by my Christmas present to you all. Hope you like Bach.

This has been one of my favourite organ pieces for the longest time. I was first introduced to this piece upon watching smalin's music animation video. The counterpoint and harmony is just sublime.

One of the biggest challenges of arranging organ for piano is to have the left hand take over the pedalboard notes, while sharing the two upper voices between the hands. I needed to rewrite and leave out notes to more or less maintain the texture. At times, the pianist "hangs on by a thread," but in general I have tried my best to make it as idiomatic as possible.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome. Enjoy!

Score is at my website: http://www.audiomuse.ca .

  • Alot of notes are missing/transposed! Try not to alter Bach's original notes just for sake of playing with 2 hands. This is afterall for organ.

  • @mtv565 Thanks for your comment.

    > Alot of notes are missing/transposed!

    That is correct.

    > Try not to alter Bach's original notes just for sake of playing with 2 hands.

But that was my intent ...

    > This is afterall for organ.

Yes, and I have arranged it for piano.

I think what I would like to express is the challenges in arranging for piano something that is not and that there is beauty in overcoming these challenges and exploring the limits of two-handed playing. :)

  • hey you should arrange an organ piece or something for the orchestra

something really loud like bwv686 muhaha

    or the great fugue

  • @reinux Hahaha we'll see. :3 I already have plans for my next composition for SFUCO hahaha.

  • It's wonderful

    wow :D :-) XD

  • @zeryx28 piano? I thought this was harpsichord. although I love this piece on organ your arrangement sounds very good!

  • @phrtphkbrlz very clear but alot of notes are omitted/changed! Thus harmony is no longer original!

  • The sound is very clear, probably the best I've heard so far..

Hope you will do more trio-sonate of Bach like this.

..may the force be with you!

  • Wow.

  • @zeryx28 I understand that this is piano transcription but the impt thing about transcriptions is that it has to be convincing for the new instrument(s) and without alterations of Bach's original harmony. By transposing and omitting notes, the harmony has changed completely. The crux about the trio sonatas is the freely moving soprano, alto and bass parts; Bach wrote for organ as he didn't want to be restricted with notes reachable by 2 hands. I suggest you assign the soprano part to violin.

  • Brilliant!
