Could you tell me if the music was written for the film or an existing classical piece.

"For you Tommy the war is over!"
What a start to a film. Cheers for posting.

At the beginning of the film, it looks like Hannibal Brooks and his comrades have been captured by the Nazis in Italy.

A very good film. What's interesting is that even though Michael Winner is Jewish, he shows in this film that not all Germans in WW2 were bad, such as the German doctor who helps Brooks, the Austrian soldier who becomes Brooks' friend (I felt sad when he was killed) and the understanding German general played by Wolfgang Preiss.

A lot of people relate Micheal Winner with stupid car insurance adverts but in his day he produced some wonderful films such as this.

obscure movie, but amazing soundtrack...and the opening scenes look they were shot today, not in 1968...hard to believe
-
