This video addresses the inequality related to employment in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is considered the most unequal region in the world since the incomes of many workers are below the line of poverty.
On the other hand, women, ethnic minorities and young people of both genders suffer the worst employment conditions. Furthermore, women unemployment rate is higher than men's, according to a joint study by ECLAC and ILO.
Even though unemployment in Latin America is showing a recovery tendency, there are still large gaps in salaries, employment opportunities and access to social protection.
Thus ECLAC has pointed out the relevance of productive employment with rights as a key element to overcome poverty and achieve equality, as proposed in the document "Time for equality: closing gaps, opening trails" presented in 2010.
ECLAC supports combating inequality in labor market through measures that allow Latin-American and Caribbean countries achieve increased well-being, with more and better jobs, social cohesion and environmental sustainability.
