Simon (in the breastplate) and myself (in the rather dashing singlet) fencing (more or less) according to the rules of the Sealed Knot (English Civil War Re-enactment). We also throw in a little bit of George Silver.
very well fought both of you. I am curious as to whether the weapons are battle tested. I am sure they are if they are up to re-enactment standards, but I was just curious. Also, as I am an American and not quite up to date in English history, did they not have shields or something for their off hand, such as main dagger, to use for defence?
The English Civil War was the mid-17th century, so shields had been completely abandoned. People did use daggers in their left hands, but mostly with rapiers. The swords we're using here are backswords, and they didn't tend to get paied off so much. Also, Sealed Knot rules don't allow daggers on the battle field, hence neither of us own them.
A little bit of George Silver. Maybe a penny's worth. ;)
