Here from 1924 are the Georgia Melodians Playing Red Hot Mama on an Edison Diamond Disc Record. The phonograph is an Edison Disc Phonograph Model D-25 (Jacobean). The D-25 was the only Edison Disc. Phonograph made in Stump Oak with its unusual, and beautiful swirling wood grains.

  • With the most modern pickup, probably little if any damage due to low compliance to the vertical groove. But you would not WANT to! The sound is terrible: very little volume, and distortion.

Use a STEREO cartridge, with a way of shutting off the lateral signal, just for Edisons (other verticals). A switch to intercept the signal, before it reaches the speaker, is ideal. Switch to lateral, switches it to the other wires, that respond to the lateral signal from Victors, Columbias, etc.

  • If you played this DD on a standard lateral phono/diamond 78 stylus, what are the consequences? That D-25 is some phonograph.

  • ohhh its wonderful!

  • ohhh its wonderful!

  • Great Edison Diamond Disc by one of the best groups that recorded for Edison!
