Was he outgrowing a rear facing convertible or rear facing infant seat? He should fit into most decent sized rear facing convertibles with room to grow, although he has likely outgrown most if not all rear facing infant seats. Some rear facing convertibles he might be close to outgrowing, because some are just too small. Squished legs look like more of a problem than they are- I know of 4 year olds who are rear facing and comfy.

Your baby is so cute!
We have that car seat, it is very nice. But, at your babies age, he would be 500% safer rear facing. Rear facing protects the head and neck from injuries like internal decapitation and traumatic brain injury. On my profile, I have a favorited video on rear facing which I would love if you would watch for a minute. I also have two links which have helped me learn more about car safety. You can also google "Extended Rear Facing" for more information.

Thank you! Yes, we kept him in rear-facing as long as possible, but he's so tall that his feet are squished against the seat and his head rides nearly above the top of the carseat. Even in this new one, he's already using the middle setting of the harness.
