Built for Rick in 2007/08

Solid one piece Maple Burl body, with Indian Rosewood set neck. Neck has been oiled for a smooth finish.
'Shark' inlays are cut from Paua Abalone sourced from New Zealand. Jumbo fretwire and Gotoh machineheads.
Pickups were handwound by us. P90 style, with the bridge slightly hotter than the neck. Pigtail aluminium bridge with Tonepros locking studs.
This one came in at around $3200 Australian dollars ($2600 USD, £1400 UK).

Stay tuned for more video diaries in the future. Subscribe for updates.

Soundtrack recorded by Saxon Smith (using this very guitar), using a Marshall TSL60 for the rhythm, and an Ormsby Dynamo 36 for leads.

  • Yeah, because a PRS usually looks like a LP jr with solid maple burl, solid rosewood neck, and P90s!

  • @joesteele93 Mate, I'm sure you look awful.

  • I likethese inlays a lot more thatn PRS' inlays.

  • @JgHaverty its difficult in the fact that the grain goes in ALL dirrections... and there are often voids that you dont see straight up when carving etc. Other than that, its regular maple.

  • @rhoads56 yeah thats what Im talkin about. For a natural color, give a light amber or light red a try! But thats more for flamed maple

Is burl a difficult wood to work with? And your neck joints are AWESOME looking!

  • @rhoads56

thanks i really need that i build my own guitar

  • @JgHaverty you mean stain black (or other colour) and sand back?? No, its straight clear lacquer, zero stain, over good quality wood. Ive only ever done the stain black/sand back technique once. See my website, and 'Gary's Tiger Bass in the diary section

  • @rhoads56 Did you not do the enhanced grain trick?

  • Very nice. I'm using redwood burl on my next project.

  • Unbelievable body !!
