This venue on the waterfront offers some really interesting compositions for night time photography. Using the Canon EOS 60D with f2.8 17-55mm lens at average exposures of 30 seconds at f22 with iso 100. The Panasonic lumix was also set up for the same exposure for comparison shots. The light might look bright, due to the long exposure, but even at iso 1600 and running the camera at 1/50 sec f2.8 the video images were quite dark and had to be boosted a little in post. The file from the Panasonic was just unusable at iso 1600.

  • i have a 60d...and i was wondering theres no way to shoot photos in the dark with a shutter speed of 1/250??

  • @extraMAYYO No the level of exposure even with the highest iso setting and widest aperute is still going to be longer than 1 second.

  • I think canon f2,8 17-55mm lens is almost perfect.

  • @nkroy1 I love this lens with its f2.8 aperture, it's expensive but I think it is much better for stills and video than the kit lens 18-55mm. Thanks for viewing.

  • Hi Graham, Fabulous images. I did an early morning session there a couple of Saturdays ago and now I really must go along at dusk while the days are short. A trip in Fog/Reduced visibility would be good also.

I suspect a lot at the BBC are quietly pleased about their move north now.

  • @g1itv Yes with the addition of the new footbridge and more fllors occupied it certainly makes a nice nightshot. Probably 30mins after sundown gives the sky a nice glow as a backdrop. Thanks for commenting.

  • @GNYBerlin Thanks Luci, we have a mutual admiration - I like you 1 minute series you pack so much into that 60 seconds and every shot well composed.

  • Amazing. Such vivid colors, sharp detail and, of course, great composition. Your work is always inspiring, Graham. And I really appreciate you giving the details about camera, exposure and post-work.
