Nelson Mandela, already a leading figure in resistance to apartheid, was asked by ITN's Brian Widlake, for his views about the campaign to secure the franchise for South Africa's black population. It is part of a longer ITN Roving Report news programme about Apartheid.

South-Africa has only gone down hill after the end of the Apartheid.

Not to say I agree with the system of apartheid, which is inhumane by all means, but it DOES say something.

How is the women-hating polygamist PIG Zuma any better then a leader such as Botha? How do the Zulu people (who came with Shaka in the 1820s) have any more right to live in South Africa then the Boer people who came there 500 years ago?

I will not admire men who set back the clock instead of bring improvement...

@gypsyguysf78 You cannot simply lump all Afrikaners together.I am not lumping all black South Africans together either, am I? SA is also the land of birth to the Boer people who lived their for hundreds of years, even BEFORE the Zulu's came along. For the black South Africans to "get over it" is indeed what I they should do. What's the use of blaming today's Afrikaners for the acts of their fathers and grandfathers? Hatred is hatred, one way or another. Racism is now mostly black on white in SA.

@reill1999 They are allowed to live in South Africa... not because Zuma likes them so much but rather because Zuma knows that kicking them out would destroy the economy the way Mugabe destroyed his country by kicking out all the white people.

You cannot kick out people who've lived in a country for hundreds of years. The Boer people belong there too, they don't have anywhere to go. Also, it's still a long way to go between "being allowed to live there" and actually being treated well. :)

@StrakkeNoorderling I'm not keen on Zuma, but he is at least a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED LEADER, unlike Botha, and he is not killing and torturing his own people to retain power. Meanwhile, Boers are allowed to live in South Africa, aren't they? They have equal rights under the law, unlike blacks during apartheid.

this is just messed up my best friend who was black and I white came here from south Africa when we just in the sixth grade and she was a funny interesting person I just do not get the hate around black people or white people or indians or Asians or woman and men Maybe I am just ignorant about those things nut I am proud of it

@amasonga Verwoed ? Oppressor??? what? has anyone listened to his speech. It was all about helping the black areas to develop. Getting the blacks to be in charge of their own destiny. Giving them total sovereignty by granting their land as countries, not just terretories under the white mans rule. and letting them shine with personal accoumplishment. But nooo the white mans land looked better and the white mans possessions were up for grabs for a communist government.
