Listen to scalper splitting hairs... every one uses even numbers. If YOU work in the medical field im scared... you would sit there and take thirty minutes to get a BP while someone is croaking.
@canadianboy40 when i did my er clinicals i did exactly that gave a bp of 143/91 the nurse looked at me and said you know we give even numbers right. Awkward lol
@scalper122 the big marks represents 10. So if you are using a Manual B/P cuff and the needle is between the four and six you would have to say five. If is is close to the big line then 8 ect. If you work in the medical field then i am scared.
@jordanfstop If you mean MANUAL BP as in a B/P cuff being pumped up by your own person, "yes it does". If you mean automatic or computer B/P cuffs then yes they do as well. I worked in ICU's, CCU's and all the ones i worked with give the actual readings of B/P, pulse ox, etc. Rounding the stuff off gives a false reading, which is not good for a patient if he/she is about to experience heart failure, certain types of heart blocks etc etc. Yes each little mark between the big marks represent 2.
@canadianboy40 You are supost to report the actual B/P doesn't matter if it is an odd number or not. At least that is the way i was trained to do it. If people look at you weird doing that then they shouldn't be in emergency meds.
very sad!! how dare you take that long
