With an official finish time of 2:15:10, Charles "Charlie" Futrell, 90 years old, of The Villages, FL became the oldest man to finish a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned triathlon on Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Clermont, FL during the Central Florida Triathlon Series #3. Charlie had previously set this mark when he finished the June 11th Central Florida Triathlon Series #2.
Mr. Futrell swam 440 yards in Lake Minneola, biked 10 miles on a course that circled Lake Minneola, and then ran 3 miles to the finish located at Clermontʼs Waterfront Park.
Though Mr. Futrell was born on August 9, 1920, USAT policy is to use the racerʼs age on December 31st as their racing age, making him 91 years old.
