  • The Native Dancer line "may" have more injuries than any other (have you researched this-do you have statistics to back your statement?) but if so it is likely only because his line represents at least 75% of ALL horses racing today. Therefore more injuries would stand to reason. He himself was NOT unsound if you read the history about him. There are also plenty of very durable descendants therefore it seems that statement is pure heresay...! He was a GREAT champion!

  • He is one of my racing hero. Thanks for sharing this video. I have also collected some great horse video in my favorites list.

  • He ran in first .

    His get ran in first.

His grand babies ran in first.

What is no to to like?

The reason the babies break is because they are babies.

  • Hello. I'd like to add my two cents into this. Well, i'm gonna start by saying that Native Dancer DID NOTNruin Thoroughbreds. Yes, his blood's in 75% of 'em, but also are his relatives. So, maybe it's Geisha, his dam who ruined it?! And why do you pick him? He has really good bones, from what i know. So, lets say his dam has bad bones but his sire has good bones. Natve Dancer has good bones, also. But, since his dam didn't, it carried on in his blood. Now i don't believe that was true, but itn

  • Native Dancer is not to blame for the idiots that drank his line almost to death. As a Race Horse there were None better, had a ton of speed from his Mama and could carry it over a distance of ground. As a Sire?, hell he is the SIRE OF SIRES, so Limy, learn a bit about what you write so you do not make a FOOL out of yourself.

  • Native Dancer was a great racehorse and sire. Most of today's graded stakes winners have him in their pedigree. When one speaks of the great sire lines of Mr. Prospector & Northern Dancer, the "Gray Ghost" is there. He was the grand sire of the brilliant Ruffian.

I visited his son, Kauai King, winner of the 1966 Derby & Preakness at Sagamore Farm. Thank you, Kevin Plank, for restoring Sagamore to its former glory.

Again, Native Dancer is one of thoroughbred racing's greastest.

  • This horse is the kiss of death for the breed. The day he started to breed was the day the Thoroughbred began to die. He wasn't special in the least.

  • @mpeindms, Rarely do you ever see a horse that's as equally effective in the breeding shed as he was on the racetrack, or vice-versa. Native Dancer was one of those rare specimens. Had he not been knocked around by Dark Star in the 53' Kentucky Derby. I'm convinced he would've been retired unbeaten. And what he went on to accomplish in the breeding shed speaks for itself.

  • @GBeret83 I was privileged to watch Native Dancer mated to some Broodmare. What a production. The "teaser" first ascertained that the Broodmare was ready and then dragged away unfulfilled (the Teaser was very unhappy with that). Then Native Dancer was led down to the Breeding Barn. Native Dancer was huge (big) in every conceivable sense of the word. I wish I had the foresight to write down the Broodmare's name so I can see what came out of the 1964 or 1965 mating.
