Joe & Wes camping for a couple of days in the Peak district, Derbyshire.
(video & pictures)
In the video we practice some basic bushcraft /woodsmen skills such as knot tying, fire lighting, cooking over the open fire, tree felling, log splitting, woodwork, tarp set up... not to mention just enjoying the walk & precious time away from the city!!

  • Is this right near bakewell? Near greenhills caravan park? Im sure iv been in that forest aswell

  • @stusf12 Hi, not Bakewell, its closer to Hope in Derbyshire.

  • nice vid mate. only comment is you build your fire too close to that tree. have to ever thought about using a hammock. again nice vid

  • @skunkifunkii Cheers, You are right about the tree, it was too close, We thought it would be fine & it suited our needs where it was... but later on the wind had other plans! We banked a rock under & up against the tree to protect it, it worked, the tree lives on.

I have never felt too comfy in a hammock, Wes likes em though, might get one for summer & give it a real test out, see if I can get used to it.

  • hi were abouts did you camp, i like them woods there, great place to camp, do you a a peak district walking map, how do you no were to go cos you may trespass ? dan

  • @danwormald Hi Dan, its near Hope in Derbyshire, I do have a map.. & Dan, we are no doubt trespassing on someone's, somewhere property, I didn't damage it & returned it as new. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

  • Dude, I had a cringe moment there, use the back of your knife to spark from a firesteel, not the cutting edge. Looks like a good knife too, look after it . :-)

  • @twighiker If you are a 'wild camper' what ever that means? You would have noticed that the tree WAS dead standing, there isn't plenty of dry wood in these tightly packed pine forests as they dont get much sun near the forest floor.

The fire was on rolled back turf, I would struggle to find the exact spot, never mind yourself.

Look up, I aint no cave man, I have a nylon tent, steel, gortex & boil in the bag, I'm enjoying my time away from a city, not pretending to be from a time I am not.

Fairy nuff, but i know there's plenty of dead low branches in there, that's what i'd have used, the axe marked stump is a dead give away btw, but we live and learn. ; )
