If you are at a Federal facility or are a government contractor, it's likely that personnel in your building are receiving their new smart cards. Before the cards can be used for door access, you'll need PIV card readers and a PIV card-capable access control system, such as Hirsch's Velocity system.
A major factor in any government security compliance initiative, such as PIV, HSPD-12, FIPS 201 and TWIC, is to know the person to whom you are giving access privileges by implementing enhanced security through encryption and mutual authentication.
This video demonstration (filmed in March 2009) includes a variety of Hirsch Electronics' card, code and biometrics readers, including end-to-end solutions for identity management and access management specific to government compliance initiatives such as PIV, HSPD-12, FIPS 201 and TWIC . These same applications can also be used in commercial, industrial and institutional settings as well.
