Sashimi is written in this way 刺身. Direct translation is the sliced meat. It does not necessarily the raw fish. It is used for raw chicken or half cooked chicken too. Probably the word has more focus on the "sliced" rather than "raw meat". Wasabi is not a horse radish. It is a different plant. We often use alternative fake Wasabi which is made from horse radish because it is cheaper. But please know the difference between two during your stay in Japan. True Wasabi has a noble flavor.
