Jimmy Dorsey was a prominent American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, trumpeter and big band leader. Along with brother Tommy they formed the "Dorsey Brothers Orchestra", but split in 1935, each with his own band. He had numerous big hits in the 30's-50's, several featuring vocalists Bob Eberly and Helen O'Connell. In 1953 he again combined with Tommy Dorsey with the renamed band "The Fabulous Dorseys". His recording of "So Rare", released in 1957, reached #2 on the Billboard chart. This selection was released after Dorsey died in 1957 and reached #21 on the Hot 100.
Yeah you are right and I stand corrected. Jimmy played on SO RARE, MAMBO EN SAX, SOPHISTICATED SWING and one other that I forget. I had located a biography which listed the stuff he played. I had always thought that one of them was JUNE NIGHT. I did read that Dick Stabile was hand picked by Jimmy himself to finish the album.

@jfmjr86 Jimmy Dorsey did not live long enough to participate in the recording of either "June Night" or it's stellar flip side, "J.D.'s Boogie Woogie." Cut five days after Jimmy's death, Dick Stablie played sax on those two hits and the Arthur Malvin Singers provided the vocals on "June Night."

This was Jimmy playing on the recording. He did this, SO RARE and a few others. Dick Stabile finished the album after Jimmy died.

This is an utterly great piece of music quite like The Clark Sisters and The Sentimentalists with Tommy Dorsey and also Glen Miller doing People Like You and Me
