I am impressed by all the educated conversation, but i have to say I have no clue what the hell you are saying. The scene is adorable, and that's pretty much it.

Hey pandit, thx 4 the enlightment on the various scenes, I appreciate your effort to extract all those captivating moments from the movie & uploading them here with analytical comments [Yh I know it hasn't been an effort but an all-out pleasure 4u to do so]. I'm happy all the best parts of the movie are online & easily accessible, Thx!
I think Gayatri is the perfect person to portray Gita in this movie.

Hi Mattia,
Please check out my review of Swades (link in my 1st post below).
I'm preparing a post (to add to that review) entitled "Enjoying the plight of helpless women: should Hindu gods be prosecuted for sexual harassment?" where I'm going to embed and comment on your Paro video from Devdas.

[contd] This would become especially clear when we juxtapose to this scene the one (that director Gowarikar rightly omitted from the movie) of Gîtâ nursing the wound on his forehead at home, while he complains to Kaveriamma that he was attacked by a wild cat that he thought was tame enough to risk trying to be friendly :-)
What a beautiful movie!

[contd] The Swades case of the panicked Gîtâ striking out at Mohan with the duster is, in this sense, quite the opposite: she's already falling for him but not enough to admit this to herself and, above all, not ready to be caught by others in such a compromising situation. [contd.]

Of course I like Swades movie too, more indeed, for the Bhakti scene. I can see how I was when I saw this scene for the first time standing by the side of Ravana for my atheist/marxist education and I can see how I am when I see now the same scene standing by the side of Rama for growing buddhist.
what is this movie called???

Friends,
You might also want to check out my paper on "Love, devotion, and service: retelling the Râmâyana in Gowarikar's Homeland (Swades)," posted today at the hyperlink you'll find in the info box above (top right).
It is being presented at the DANAM (Dharma Association of North America) panel (09 Nov 2009) at the American Academy of Religions (AAR) conference at Montreal.
