Man I want to cry every time I hear Jaco play. "I loveded this dude man." He is my Hendrix on base, I hear other base players tryin to get the "Jaco growl" but none come close to what he does with sounds, victor wooten is good with his Stanley Jordan style but Jaco is the King. Miller, Clake, Graham, Flea, all those cats are great but there will only be one Jaco Pastorius. Imagine Hendrix, Jaco, Miles Davis, Buddy Miles, and Herbie Hancock. That would be somethin special. Damn Bouncer, WHYYYYYY

Maybe Jimi Hendrix was the Jaco Pastorius of guitar. ;)

the jimi hendrix of bass...

Regarding Jaco - The Bipolar gene is adjacent to the musical genious gene. It is not a great thing to be Bipolar (Life will be experienced at Heaven & Hell levels for which drugs will be an inevitable pursuit to tame)
But the upside is that you can be a fantastic musician.

@jamesmanortiz Early death has that affect on ratings - especially notable members of the '27 club.' No disrespect to Jimi, but I agree with you.

Jimi Hendrix is overrated.

That's pretty interesting, I always believed him.
I ripped the frets out of my old strat, and now it's a totally different beast. My friend and I went around ripping the frets out of our friends basses and guitars for money. Detroit does not dig frets apparently.
It is actually a pretty interesting and fun process removing frets and filling the gaps.

It's a very common phrase in jazz to end a tune. I think it might have been made up by Duke Ellington, as the earliest instance of it in which it is actually written down as part of the music that I can think of is in Take the A Train, but of course it might have existed before then.
