China rebuilds Silk Road - 03 Aug 2008

Thousands of years ago, silk and spices used to be the goods of choice. Now it's about vital resources of gas and oil.

As China looks west again for trade, Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng reports on how the country is rebuilding its ancient Silk Road with an ambitious network of railways and pipelines.

China is an old civilization and a re-awakening empire. It will be the next superpower. The united states of america is going to collapse soon. it is just a temporary empire. it will fall apart and the 3rd world of today is going to look like paradise compared to what the americas will look like after the coming financial and economic collapse.

Now now, I'm Chinese too, but its this kind of hubris and blind love of China that will bring down China. True china may have been the center of civilization before, and will be a superpower soon, but let us remember that Chinese history has many episodes of shame and failure. Let us be proud but humble.

From the West, we often have the impression of chinese being "mindless clones", but let us think for a moment : who needs us to think so, and how do they orient our opinion over that distant country and its people ?

everybody else thinks so too. and if you ask me, in terms of superpower talks, i never had heard the chinese leadership say they will be a superpower. they're not a talkative bunch, i recon.
