The story of Abraham and Isaac was one I never quite liked...even as a Christian

P.S. I have been away from Youtube for a while and made this video last night. I have only just found out about the Jezuzfreak777 debacle today.

  • I don't remember the threats being involved or God saying he didn't care.

I think the story is a bit deeper than its given credit for. For one, we can empathize with Abraham more than we can with God. For God to give his only son for our sins shows that God was willing to sacrifice what he wouldn't be willing to let Abraham sacrifice.

  • @Epydemic2020 The threats are more of whats been implied to someone who fears god as much as Abraham did.

But god didn't really give up (sacrifice) Jesus (himself). Jesus went through less torture and abuse than many people have throughout human history, then he came back to life, rose to infinite bliss, and now he rules in heaven. A sacrifice is something you lose, not something you loan out.

As far as fearing God goes, Abraham is probably not the best example of that. In the previous chapters Abraham laughs at God (ch 17) and questions God's goodness (ch 18). It is only after God's goodness and power had been demonstrated that Abraham was willing to comply. The reason Abraham complied is seen in Hebrews 11:19. According to that, the reason Abraham trusted in God wasn't due to fear.
