El Cid 1961 English (Part 1)

He was born Rodrigo (or Ruy) Díaz de Vivar. Vivar being the town where he was born. It is near Burgos. He was born either in 1040 or 1043. Historians are not sure of the date. He died in Valencia in 1099. His name, "El Cid" was given to him by the Moors. In the mixture of the Spanish and Arabic language they used, they called him "As-Sid" (Lord or Chief). This was pronounced by the Spaniards as "El Cid", but they themselves actually called him "Campeador" (Champion)

@4JBrewer It would be interesting to see a Muslim filmmaker of the status of Anthony Mann make an historical actioner about Ben Yusef, and color the Cid as a pure villain. Even Darth Vader, before he became Darth Vader, was a loving man who went the wrong path; ideologically, I'm not sure even Ben Yusef could be accused of that, as Muhammed did indeed command the spreading of Islam through conquest. Not substantially different from the evangelic commission of Jesus to the disciples.
