  • great

  • Captivating, utterly believable, not heard a better rendition.

  • Bea Arthur you are a LEGEND!! <3 RIP Bea!

  • @schrire39 Artistic interpretation and critique are largely subjective and require no "evidence" but Arthur's heavy-handed yowling on this song stands (or fails) in strong contrast to more subtle and subversive interpretations by Lotte Lenya, Nina Simone, Anne Kerry Ford, etc.. Lenya and Simone set standards that nobody should be expected to match, but Ford shows the focus and intensity this song needs, and Arthur lacks. Sorry, I do love Bea Arthur elsewhere, but this is overdone ham.

  • @JackFertig why does she make a "hash" of it? Please give evidence for your opinion. I think this is a beautiful, clever, inward looking interpretation.

  • I can see her make that mischievous face when she chuckles, "That'll learn ya!"

Love you Bea! Rest in peace.

  • this version sounds very tragical, like it :)

  • I got to see her perform this Live! It was amazing!!!! One of my favorite Bea Arthur songs....Thanks for the post!

  • I love Bea Arthur, a brilliant comedienne, but she makes a hash of this song. Hear it done right by Nina Simone or in the original German (or English) by Lotte Lenya whose husband wrote the music expecting she'd sing it.

  • Thank you dresden dolls:]
