St. Louis Blues/Unsquare Dance. Part Three of lost Australian performance of Dave Brubeck Quartet hosted by Digby Wolfe. Features chat with band; plug for Saba TV Stereogram; and segues to dancers Carlu Carter and Bill McGrath.
The film was saved from destruction in 1984 and now is with the Australian National Film and Sound Archive.
A 1" PAL telecine transfer of the film was sent to Dave Brubeck's management in the mid 90s.
@rwoods2k Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Charlie Parker and Ray Charles were also big heroin users. Such talent, yet such insecurity that they needed that sort of a crutch. Rumour has it that Buddy Rich was a huge amphetamine freak, back in the days when you could buy them at any corner store. Kinda explains his amazing speed lol.

@rwoods2k John Coltrane completely stopped doing drugs shortly after he left the Miles Davis sextet. But what you said aaplies to Bill Evans, Philly Joe Jones, Red Garland, etc....

Alot of Jazz players in the 50's, 60's were into some really bad drugs, like Heroin. it ruined, hinded the careers of John Coltrane, Miles Davis just to name a few. I think back then ppl in general just didnt realize the destructive force of those types of drugs.

so nice to this high profile band, they really were good friends you can just sense it, rather than a lot of stressed and unhappy jazz bands of the time.

I think he says "glad you should notice that". Not sure. I'd like to know what Joe whispers to Gene after his introduction........
