It works just as well and less painful with some lube. Growing up my parents use to us water, but astroglide works the best!

Ow bro. Ow.

Ooo I am a Massage Therapist and I did not learn this technique, Looks very painful. Does it make the skin feel raw?

I had bad RSI symptoms in my arms that were not healing after almost 2 months of physical therapy. They finally tried this on me (but with a metal tool) and I felt better immediately-definitely recommend for micro-traumas as a result of RSIs.

As a Western PT that was tired of poor results I started using these techniques in the clinic. My results have blown me away. I use this technique with all of my overuse injury patients, combined with manual stretching and finishing it all off with some facilitation of postural re-ed. Works great. Looks painful, but it doesn't hurt. Does a hickie hurt when you get one? Gotta let the person know that they will be red for a few days up to a week.

@PakDaeHan Im sorry, Gua Sha has only been practiced for over 2,000 years... How long has your "knowledge" been around? Keyboard warrior!!!

gua sha is fucken barbaric with no fucken knowledge of the human body.
I find that it is good for chronic as well as acute illness and also for the results of past trauma. That means you dont need to be "sick" (like with the flu or bronchitis), but that it is also good for tension that has built up as a result of stress or after a past injury. Often the body has protections from injuries that happened long ago which have blocked flow of energy ever since.
