I have had this Airco welder / generator for a few years now. I just recently started working on it. As can be seen there was some collateral damage to the crankshaft. This video shows how I decided to rectify this problem.

  • did you use a bottoming tap or just a plug tap

  • @8tyman8

I ran a plug then a bottoming tap to get as many treads as possible.

  • Where'd you get that forklift that's holding it?

I made this video at the yard at work. The company owns it, I just work on it. That fork lift it a late 1970s Manitou with a 4 cylinder perkins diesel. 12K pound lift capacity.

I will have to make a video of just it sometime

  • nice fix buddy! thats a nice magnet drill press wherd you get that!

  • @SmallEngineMechanic Cool, thanks. ile let you know what i end up doing.

Thanks, the crank seemed to be some kind of cast steel. Im thinking it was pretty low in carbon because the exposed fracture was really light gray.

Im not sure what type of weld would be best. I know with certain rods you can really build a surface up using straight polarity DC. I'd be interested to see how you work it out.
