Did you know? You can vote right now.

www.elections.ca www.elections.ca www.elections.ca

Between Election Day, Advance Polls, and Special Ballot you can vote on nearly any day from the formal call of the Canadian Election until the results are counted.

Below, you'll find the basic script of this film. Please feel free to translate it and repost it in as many languages as you would like or that you can.

Voting is incredibly easy to do. There are so many ways to do it. Choose one, and then vote.

Script:

"Okay, Canada, there are a few ways you can vote. You already know you can vote on Election Day, May 2. You might also know that without any excuse, you can vote during the Advanced Polls. They'll be open from noon 'til 8 PM April 22, 23, and--because another day was added this year, on the 25th. That's four different days of voting, already. But if you still think the schedule might be tight. Or you just want to vote on your own time, you can vote by Special Ballot.

Not everyone knows about the Special Ballot, but you can apply to use it any day from when the Election is formally called, up until 6PM local time on the 6th day before the Election (that's April 26th). That's a lot of voting days. And, again, you don't need any excuse to use any one of them.

The easiest way to vote by Special Ballot is to show up at your local Elections Canada Returning Office. They're open every day of the week, and from 9-9 on weekdays. Don't know where the office is? Go to www.Elections.ca, type in your postal code on the home page, and check out all the information--on Confirmed Candidates, Polling Stations, Office hours and locations, jobs, everything--there's a wealth of info there. Then, head down to the office. You'll know you're there because it will be plastered with big, shiny, yellow signs that say "Elections Canada".

[Know your candidate of choice and how to spell their name. There's a chance you'll have to write it on the ballot.

Bring ID with you. Anytime you vote now, you have to prove your identity. That means name, signature, and address. And Picture ID always makes things easier.]

When you get there, say you want to vote by Special Ballot. You'll fill out one form, they'll check your ID, and then you get to vote.
Sound simple? It is."

  • You evidently feel very strongly about things in the government. Get yourself heard. Use whatever method is best for you and your friends, and go vote.
