2006-07 Deck we built around the pool.

This deck was built with Blood, Sweat, and Beers!

It took us a whole summer of weekends to build this, plus part of the following summers' weekends.

It looks easier than it is. It seemed like every pier, post, beam, floor joist, floor plank, had an angle cut, or in some way, you had to take into consideration the pool in the middle of the deck.
I have no more hair to pull out.

I think we probably could have built this deck in much less than half the time it took, if it didn't have a pool in the middle of it.

And yes, we got a building permit! And it's a good thing we did because the building inspector showed up before we got it all finished. It passed the final inspection !

Now all we need is a keg of beer and some girls in bikinis and we'll be good to go!

  • what are the pool dimensions thx lenth width and depth thx

  • @pyronathanpyro The pool is approximately 30 feet long x 15 feet wide. The deck is 45 feet long x 25 feet wide. The depth of the pool is probably around 4 to 5 feet tops.

  • How much money in wood?

  • @rsfeller I think it was around $6000. Cedar is Expensive.

  • @BigORat Holy Smokes...didn't realize it was cedar..I'm sure it some time not only because you built it well...but you had to spread the expense around! very motivational for my project...

  • @rsfeller, --- Well actucally, the posts and floor joists are treated lumber, and the rest is cedar; (cedar floor planks, rough cedar rim board that goes all the way around the outside edge of the deck, cedar hand railings and pickets).

The posts are 6x6's. The floor joists are 2x10's. We purposely overkilled on the size and amount of posts. You can probably get by with 4x4's and 2x8's. (Maybe).

I regret pouring all those piers. This all has to be dismantled some day.
