Poor fawn, will never get live out in the wild. Doe probably even watched you take it.

Actually we took him to a wildlife rehabilitator who released him with a pack of 15 deer a few months later. My wife, who picked him up, was an animal control officer and an investigator for the SPCA, so I'm pretty sure this is the standard and correct way of treating a fawn walking towards oncoming traffic on an exit ramp of an interstate.

What happened with the fawn? Taking care of them takes some work.

We took her to a farm sanctuary that rehabilitates wild animals. They had about 15 fawns when we dropped this one off and they will be released as a pack when they are all healthy within the next year, I believe sometime after the winter.

good. at least some people are abbiding by the laws and taking an abadoned or orphaned fawn to a rehabilitation center for wild animals. good for you.
