David Cleveland talks about the making of 'The Prof' for the TV series Vision On starring Tony Hart and Pat Keysell.

The films were made by David, Tony Amies and David Wyatt in the 1970s using stop-frame animation and all effects done 'in camera'. With todays digital post-editing technology this would not have been a problem but these were made using 16mm film and shots often had to be timed to music. An exclusive DVD (around 45 mins) containing many of the Prof films as well as the later 'Cid Sleuth' character (Jigsaw - Janet Ellis) is available at http://www.its-prof-again.co.uk

  • frickin hilarious! did this performer do anything other than VO?

  • David did some shorts for Anglia TV, but their work (as a team) was mostly for VO. Cleveland worked at what used to be Ealing as a young man, editing works by Milligan, Sellers etc which clearly influenced the Prof character and helped in terms of editing technique but most effects were don 'in camera' during shooting. Remember, this is all done with film not video so the timing is astounding really.

  • I remember Vision On and the prof when I was a boy. The prof made me laugh back then because he was like a human cartoon character. Thank you for posting this video it really brought back alot of fond memories. Is there anymore to this video because it seemed like it just ended abruptly.

  • You can order complete video direct from the Prof himself - well worth the money!

  • So funny

  • Interesting to hear the Prof's voice. The music used for the Prof films was also the theme of an ITV daytime show called Jokers Wild.

  • Super

  • Excellent

  • Absolutely brilliant! Very fond memories of these as a nipper, and they're just as good, if not better, than I remember them. Thank you so much for posting them. Now you've whet our appetite...
