Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. More and more, wind power mills are seen in the countryside, in large wind farms and for the most part, away from city life. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates.

  • We don't have a GENERATION problem in this country. We have a STORAGE and TRANSMISSION problem. We desperately need new (lighter) methods to store electrical potential, and lower resistance transmission (wires) systems.

  • Notice from 0:08 to 0:11, only a few of the turbines are even moving. Even though they can get these up, it takes a lot of money to keep them maintained. So sometimes they stay motionless.

  • THE METRIC SYSTEM! I LOVE IT!

  • @chrisfromthehills yes and no

There are two major problems preventing electric cars from becoming mainstream

    1) Short range ( a serious but not insurmountable technological problem)

    2) High price (as expected from any new technology)

These problems need to be addressed separately. Now I agree that if the grid is fed with cleaner and renewable energy like wind, it will add a very good reason to fix it. I hope it happens soon.

  • @Tamizushi ok, if u had a windmill that could produce more electricity than u need, would it make sense to buy an electric car?

  • The other states need to start following California's example. It's cheap and effective technology, not a full solution, but a huge part of our (hopefully inevitable) transition to green energy. Also fuck the birds and bats, it's their fault for flying into the things.

  • great

  • @SereneiBE Wind is already about as cheap as coal in the US although more expensive than gas. Comparing it with oil doesn't really makes sense, since oil is for transportation, not for electricity generation. Making electricity to feed the grid with oil at current price would be silly expensive.

  • Wind spire vertical axis turbans: bird friendly.

  • @SereneiBE OIl is more convient we are willing to pay for that in the US
