Hello Everyone! I am so glad to be back. I have recently moved and just fell out of my normal YouTube schedule. However, things are back to normal, I am situated at my new apartment, and I have a lot of really neat videos in the pipeline (lol BP...bleh). Today, I am putting up this neat DIY video as well as a fun Outfit of the Day video. I have provided details pertaining to the DIY lip balm below. Make sure to tell me if you decide to make this. You will be hooked! Thanks for watching. If you can, please rate thumbs up! Thank you!! --Michael

-------
Actual recipe (give or take some percentages):

20-25% Mango Butter

20-25% (cosmetic grade oil) Coconut Butter

30-35% (liquid at room temperature oil) Mix Hempseed Oil and Sweet Almond Oil

10-20% Beeswax

(Experiment with proportions until you get the exact feel you desire).

------------------------------
What ingredients and Why I chose them (I wrote all this, it is not copy and pasted...so read through it if you would like, it is actually pretty interesting!). :)

Why Mango Butter? Mango butter moisturizes the skin due to its emollient properties. It has also shown to reduce the degeneration of skin cells and help restore skin flexibility. It is often used for very dry and itchy skin conditions (thus, perfect for the lips). Mango Butter also has the ability to protect against a good deal of UVB radiation. Lastly, it contains very important vitamins such as vitamins A and E (best skin care vitamin duo, IMO).

As for Coconut Butter, the butter is extremely rich in fats and is extracted from the seed of the cocoa plant. This butter is going to appear solid/brittle at room temperature. Coconut butter is very common in skin care products because it contains natural antioxidants (about 5 IU of vitamin E per oz.). It also contains a variety of minerals that, together, soothe, balance, and hydrate the skin/lips.

Hempseed Oil is interesting for a few reasons. For one, the essential fatty acids that are present in the oil very closely resemble the skin's natural lipid makeup. Therefore, Hempseed Oil neutralizes the effects of dehydration (a common and significant problem for the lips). One essential fatty acid in Hempseed Oil is linoleic acid (as well as gamma-linolenic acid), which is therapeutic for the skin. Fatty acids help protect against oxidative damage (both internal and external), and help supplement the skin's intercellular matrix. Interestingly, the fatty acids in Hempseed Oil also contain sterols, phospholipids, and glycerides. Youthful skin, when functioning properly, has a lot of ceramides. With age, these ceramides decrease. Once polyunsaturated fatty acids are then replaced by not-so-saturated fatty acids. When this process takes place, the metabolism of the skin slows and wrinkles begin to form. However, applying fatty acids (like those in Hempseed Oil) act to re-compensate for decreasing ceramide levels (and thus have a cosmetic effect on the appearance of wrinkles). Hempseed Oil is around ¼ protein and it contains all nine essential amino acids (and two additional sulfur-rich amino acids).

As for Sweet Almond Oil, this oil is very easily absorbed by the skin, is a great emollient, and has a very high percentage of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, and E. (On a side note, Almond Oil is popular for taking off eye makeup because it is gentle, extremely quick and effective, and it hydrates/soothes the eye area).

Here is an eBay link to the little tins/empty containers I showed in the video. These work great, and you can customize them by putting a homemade sticker on the lid.
