  • @blacksoilder10 That scenario is a grey area. I would imagine if your not going a hundred and ten miles an hour the police may cut a break. Usually, the husband thinks that just because his wife is in labor, that that gives him the right to drive like a mad hatter and put the general public in danger along with their lives.

But, it's a grey area and a police officer could probably answer it better than I could.

  • @nwvfd22 what if its an emergencey, like rushing a pregnant woman to hospital? will they cut some slack?

  • Chevy?? Yech!

  • Definitely will make it to the fire station in time to catch the first truck out. :P

  • @TheActionGuyss not really unless you dont have a permit for the lights in wich case the most you'll get is a fine for having them turned on. driving with them turned on without a permit will get you arrested.

  • @nwvfd22

Sweet, thanks for the reply and explanation. If they are state sanctioned with restrictions then that is a good idea...over here in Oz I could see so many of our brain dead signing up for the concept and taking the piss as they do. Such is the dumbing down of our nation.

  • @sierraonezero

Yes there are heavy penalties for misusing lights. It is not even the least bit temping to abuse them either, because the punishment is so steep. You could even be looking at jail time for misusing using them in traffic (i.e. just to get somewhere without an emergency) or if you're not authorized to use them by the fire chief or the state police where you reside.

  • @nwvfd22

Ah, that explains it well (another reply elsewhere turned up an angry nutter). Would there be penalties for the misuse of these lights though? Must be tempting to use them to get around quicker or get slow pokes out of your way.

  • @sierraonezero

In America, states allow volunteer firefighters, EMT's, and fire chiefs ect. the rights to use these lights or a siren to respond to and emergency call. Mainly to navigate traffic and roadways.

Various states allow different colors/sirens/traffic laws for emergency personnel responding to a call.

It's complicated to explain in 500 characters, but yeah, these lights actually have a legal purpose to be installed on THIS particular car in whatever state this is in.

  • Back in the real world (and above the petty bickering), what do the flashing lights allow this car to do that other cars can't? In parts of Europe and all of Oz this car would be pulled over, fined and possibly towed for illegal lighting. Do these fairy lights change the rules in the US?
