From the 30th of June to the 11th of July I visited Telebasel for two weeks for a little practical experience with television cameras, cut, graphics and what happens behind the stage of television in general. In the first week I did not really get involved in the videos very much, besides carrying stuff around and contributing only in the form of ideas and suggestions. Thus I was rather surprised and even a little intimidated when in the second week I was asked to film a whole report by myself. In the first week my name appeared a couple times in the credits-camera-section with another cameraman's name. You might already have noticed that in these credits my name stands alone. Television is not art and the images and clips that you see in this report are as simple and unsophisticated as can get, yet this has meant a lot to me. Considering that I was only 17 years of age when this was broadcasted on a channel which is watched by at least 40000-50000 people a night, you will probably understand that this, even though the simplicity, was a big deal for me.
Even though most of the images have bad lighting and are shakey, the day after this was broadcasted, even the boss of TeleBasel congradulated me in person.
Even though i do not plan on becoming a television cameraman, i believe that it was been a very interresting experience and that i have learned a lot from it. I would advise anyone to do such a praktikum. If your not into video at all, you should still do it, since TeleBasel is filled to the top with with super nice and cool people.
congratulations man!
