  • Get out your checkbooks! The shakers and movers have found another way to waste your money and buy themselves free lunches and travel. Why not just elect representatives who can actually get something done?

  • Given we do need a new constitution, how would you structure the selection of delegates?

  • What was to have been a "People's Convention" is now a shroud for appointed delegates and political manipulations. Individuals who spearheaded the Repair CA effort may be disappointed with the final language of the initiative which leave gaping opportunity for corporate influence.

Read "Bay Area Council Files Constitutional Convention Initiatives" @ California Progess Report by Robert Cruickshank,

  • In a surprise development, Repair California may be dumping its early consideration for a citizen assembly to rewrite the Constitution and may instead be leaning towards a legislative appointee model. More news to come.

  • Angie Coiro hosts Berkeley linguistic Professor Lakoff who has written a one sentence initiative to overturn the 2/3 supermajority vote currently required to pass legislative budgets.

  • In early Sept 09, the California State Legislators created a bicameral, bipartisan committee to address reforming the govt. This is due to the pressure that reform groups like Repair California, California Action Network and California Forward are creating.

  • Most states regularly review their Constitution without a great deal of drama. California's has not been rewritten in 130 years during which time, it has become a monster - the third largest constitution - in the world! I think we can and should do this. If not now, then when?

    Whichever

  • Thanks for your feedback on the use of the word "Grassroots" in the title. Once a video is edited and posted and starts to collect viewings, it's hard to pull it down, otherwise I might have rephrased the opening title.

Still, Repair California is doing a good job of trying to keep this open and transparent.

  • THIS IS NOT GRASSROOTS! Check out the Bay Area Council to see who is realy behind this! They will rig this convention to benefit the richest most venal corporate and private equity vultures on earth. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SHAM.

  • We DON'T need a new California Constitution, certainly not one pushed by the wealthiest pro-business corporate interests like Bof A, Chevron, KKR etc! The Bay Area Council is backing this from the beginning, a collection of the most venal corporate entities in the state if not the world! WHAT WE NEED IS TO REMOVE THE 2/3rds supermajority budget rule! If you trust VENTURE CAPITALISTS whose main goal is greed to rewrite your constitution then back the Repair California BS. See the Bay Area Council
