Those of you who critisize know NOTHING about belcanto singing, she was one of the great voices of the 20th century, and by the way I havent heard ANYONE sing like that ANYWHERE for at least 15 years.

I think she hadn't figured out yet how to lip sync in front of a camera and keep her normal dramatic investment. Solid solid singing and I agree with cantantelirico84; haven't heard anyone in years that can touch this.

Damn, her voice is so Italianate. 4/4

What's appealing about Stella's singing is that she conveys the vulnerability of this woman Leonora so well, and I believe it's because she naturally has feminine stage temperament. The change of colors in her voice, which some people find undesirable for this aria, actually works for me. It shows the vulnerability of Leonora better that way.

I'm quite surprised Renata Tebaldi isn't here. Perhaps because there is no video. There is plenty of recordings. She had to be regarded as one of the great Leonora's.

Absoluely sounds like Corelli

Carlo Bergonzi

Grazie La Stella ancora piu bella la voce. The tenor is the nobleman himself Carlo Bergonzi... Thanks for posting this. It is really wonderful to see..... cantantelirico84 is absolutely right~! Enjoy!!!

Yes! Thank you for saying that. So I am not alone with this opinion!
Stella always had lots of color in the voice, and it was full and rich from bottom to top. That being said, she's not an ideal singer for this role, IMO. She lacks the trill and coloratura abilities, and I find her diction in the aria to be mushier than that reputed of Sutherland. Her voice is still moving though, for it's langourous quality. 4/3.5
P.S. I'm pretty sure that's Corelli as Manrico, which is a definite plus for the production! The poor lipsynching and forced acting is a shame.

It's Bergonzi, also a plus for the production :)
