A branch of the Royal Bank of Canada in Ottawa, was firebombed on the morning of May 18th. A communiqué and video were posted on the Ottawa Indymedia website and signed "FFFC - Ottawa."

The communiqué which is also read on the video by a computerized voice, makes references to the Royal Bank's sponsoring of the Vancouver Olympics and its financing of the Alberta Tar Sands.

Below is the communiqué:

"Royal Bank Canada was a major sponsor of the recently concluded 2010 Olympics on stolen indigenous land. This land was never legally ceded to colonial British Columbia. This hasnt stopped the government from assuming full ownership of the land and its resources for the benefit of its corporate masters and to the detriment of aboriginal peoples, workers and the poor of the province. The 2010 Winter Olympics increased the homelessness crisis in Vancouver, especially the Downtown Eastside, Kanadas poorest urban area. Since the Olympics bid, homelessness in Vancouver has nearly tripled while condominium development in the Downtown Eastside is outpacing social housing by a rate of 3:1. The further criminalization and displacement of those living in extreme poverty continues apace.

"Royal Bank Canada is one of the planets greenest companies according to one of its own brochures. Coporate Kanada saw fit to include RBC as one of the top 50 in a competition dubbed Canadas Greenest Employers, which purports to recognize organizations that have created a culture of environmental awareness. Yet RBC is now the major financier of Albertas tar sands, one of the largest industrial projects in human history and perhaps the most destructive. The tar sands, now the cause of the second fastest rate of deforestation on the planet, are slated to expand several times its current size.

The games in Vancouver are now over, but resistance continues. An RBC branch can be found in every corner of Kanada.

On June 25-27 2010, the G8/G20 leaders and bankers are meeting in Huntsville and Toronto to make decisions that will further their policies of exploitation of people and the environment. We will be there.

We pass the torch to all those who would resist the trampling of native rights, of the rights of us all, and resist the ongoing destruction of our planet. We say: The Fire This Time.

FFFC - Ottawa
at the corner of Bank Street and First Avenue."

  • @Fmaack That doesn't change the fact that 70% of tax revenue is generated by the top 40% income earners. But I agree with you that the poor pay more taxes than they should, because we all pay more taxes than we should. :)

  • @ericleb01 Emancipators continuously tell us not to stereotype them, because their ways of freeing slaves are not always this violent.

Well how about telling these people to QUIT STEALING OUR SLAVES. Stealing a slave fron a cotton plantation does not halt slavery. It never does. It simply costs them money and slaves, while WE the PEOPLE can't get our cotton picked. They are being COUNTER-productive.

  • @grahamnoyes The poor actually pay more taxes than they should. A lot of what people pay in rent is actually tax. When property taxes go up, rents also go up. Whereas middle-class people might complain but afford it, the poor might choose not to eat on certain days.

  • @governslayer Actually, I wasn't kidding. The lowest 10% income bracket are not required to pay taxes, other than consumer's taxes like GST, which we all pay.

  • @grahamnoyes haha,your pretty funny hey meathead.

  • @governslayer The poor don't pay taxes, dumbass.

  • nice.

  • My issue is this. YOU WILL NEVER FIX ENOUGH SHIT TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY! That is life so get the hell over it. Ya know as people we are really some of the most whiny people to have existed. Times are so bad? Okay go back maybe a 100 years ago and tell me if times are all that bad. Just get the fuck over it. Bad things happen so cry over something useful. Its not the governments job to take care of you either which is alot of the bitching I hear about.

  • @governslayer And destroying buildings helps how?
