David Oistrakh plays Tchaikovsky Concerto (1st Mov.) Part 1

David Oistrakh plays Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35: 1st Movement (Part 1) I had to cut it because the file was too big. The second part is here: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

There are so many awesome renditions of this concerto, my favorite of all time (love Tchaikovsky), but Oistrakh's is one of the greatest, along with Kogan, Gitlis, Perlman, and the unknown Brazda (check my videos).

Also Jascha Heifetz (for mi is the best, look for the same movement by him), Milstein and Vadin Repin

I've already seen Heifetz, his rendition is okay I guess, but other than some fast notes and such, not too impressive to me.

I think this is THE very best recording of this concerto we'll ever be given to listen to ! I personnally stop breathing every ten seconds or so ... So emotional !

I agree wholeheartedly, except that you think Heifitz is technically superior. Technique doesn't come into the equation for me. It's the end result that counts. This is Oistrakh's interpretation and is the benchmark for me.

I count Oistrakh among the all time greats of the violin. The others being Menuhin, Heifetz and Stern. They just dont make them like them anymore... Now we are stuck with Vanessa Mae who butchers whatever piece is given to her or Sarah Chang who plays so superficially its like listening to a sibelius document...
