Thanksgiving is once a year occasion. In order to add more variety to your Thanksgiving dinner, consider updating your mashed potato recipe with help from Williams-Sonoma culinary expert Amanda. In this video, she demonstrates how to make her favorite buttermilk mashed potatoes.

To make buttermilk mashed potatoes at home, clean the potatoes using abrasive gloves and cut them into thick slices. Boil these potato slices on medium flame for 40-45 minutes. Don't forget to add some salt to the water while boiling the potatoes as this adds flavor to the potatoes. As the potatoes cook, take a saucepan and warm some butter milk for 4-5 minutes. Once the potatoes cooked, mash them up with a potato ricer or food mill.

Once the potatoes are mashed, add the warmed buttermilk as well as some butter, chives, white pepper and salt to the mashed potatoes. Transfer the potatoes to a warmed serving bowl and present your guests with an extra special Thanksgiving dish.

  • Why would you spend the time scrubbing the skins if you're just going to peel the potato anyway? If anything give it a quick rinse, peel, then rinse again if you're that paranoid. Waste of time IMO.

  • lol, I just use a potato masher :x

  • Wish you would have added the ingredient measurements to this demo, but thanks for all the tips and showing all gadgets :)
