This video is part 2 of a BSSM session.
Part 1 is here:

Bill explains how "understanding" in the parable of the sower comes through experience, not just mere head knowledge. By experiencing a word in practical life experience, it prevents a 'seed' to be stolen, and the power of the word -- which is has power -- is now growing and will bear fruit in your life.

  • Original Word: συνίημι

    understand, be wise.

From sun and hiemi (to send); to put together, i.e. (mentally) to comprehend; by implication, to act piously -- consider, understand, be wise.

I do not see the connection to understanding "through the 5 senses", although I do follow the idea that obeying the word and making it our experience is likely to make truth more than head knowledge.

Test everything, hold to what is good. Be a doer not a hearer only.

  • @mozdickson

yea, I looked it up too, I don't know where Bill got the "5 senses" thing. But I understand the principle (James 1:22).

  • @mozdickson

Gentlemen, this parable is found in all three of the synoptic gospels. In Mark 4:1-20, Matthew 13:1-23, and Luke 8:1-15. If you take a look at Marks account of the parable i think you will find what Bill was talking about. In Mark 4:13 the work "understand" here is the word: eidō meaning-

    1) to see

    a) to perceive with the eyes

    b) to perceive by any of the senses

    c) to perceive, notice, discern, discover

    d) to see

There's more. It just wouldn't fit. Hope that helps.

Sweet, thanks that helps a lot. You're awesome.

  • he stands so close to the edge of the stage...

  • @Brilliance728 look at biblos.com/mark/4-13.htm this show's that mark 4:13 uses a form of both eido and gnosesthe and actually both have to do with feeling and the senses (hold the mouse over the words "know" in the English and you get a definition of the Greek word behind it!)

  • Mark 4:19 "but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful."

Three souls in this parable were lost, died. Only the one sowed on good ground lived and went on to produce fruit. All those who do not grow and produce fruit will be taken away from the true vine. John 15:4-6 Read the bible for yourself. Ask for discernment. There are many false prophets sent out into the world to deceive.

  • What a timely and great word. I really ate that up. Yes. Those of us who worship by choice are whom God chooses to overcome he who was the worship leader, thought he was all that, sinned, fell, and wants everyone and everything to worship him. Satan is an insane egomaniac and God shows how unworthy Satan is of worship by using the foolish things of this world to confound the wise... He just... turns it all on its ear. Love it!

what reference tool are u using? because the one I'm using (public service announcement: it was one of the first to come up when I did a google search so it's probably not the best) brings up the word gnosesthe in reference to understanding. Also, in Mark 4:13 understand seems to apply to the disciples whereas in the Matthew version it was in regards to the parable...??

  • @MrJoelBeckett : dude thank you soo much. lol, I tried looking up the original greek like other ppl and wasn't finding a hit with the 5 senses thing. although what Bill said made sense (being doers of the word, not just hearers) it def. helps that the "understand w/ the senses" thing wasn't a limb he was going out on. the fact that it was an ACTUAL nuance to the word adds another dimension to what Jesus was saying

lol...so glad for modern day Bereans

  • The Parable of the Soil

    A hardened heart of unbelief

is staked and guarded by the thief

who, when the Word is cast its way,

swoops down and snatches it away.

  • And so, although the Word is sown, to that heart it remains unknown, because there was no entryway; rebounding, it was caught away. So sad that hardened hearts exist, which shall continue to resist the Truth, which is the only way, and hold eternal life at bay. A somewhat softer heart was found, which had a little bit of ground, and when the Word was sown therein, it started new life to begin.
  • But soon the Sun came out in force and withered the poor sprout, of course, because of shallowness and sin, the roots could not dig deeply in. So sad that softer hearts aren’t deep enough to roust them from their sleep so they could freely enter in to life, and be cleansed from their sin. A softer heart of greater worth received the Seed within its earth, where it was nurtured and grew strong, but had to fight, for all along...
  • weeds and brambles grew there too and sought to choke the Word that grew, and like a cloak, the darkest song of stifling tares wrought greatest wrong. So sad that there are softer hearts which can’t defeat what wrath imparts so they could join the joyful throng that sings the overcomer’s song. But wait, a softer heart yet lives, receiving all the Sower gives, and deep within its moist, rich soil, the Truth is nourished, without toil.
