She started fetching at about 10 weeks, and now 5 months old drops chosen toy (foam ear plug, paper ball, milk carton ring pull...) at our feet and requests up to an hour of throwing, and usually drops it right in our hand or nudges it to us if she drops too early. She seems to learn behaviours just by being praised, we haven't done any food training. Her mum (who put on weight after spaying and is now on a strict diet!) is just learning to play (they were feral, and she didn't even respond to string when they moved in 4 months ago...) and this was the first time she did a complete 'fetch'. These two are rescue cats and are such treasures. Please give a home to a rescue cat or two if you want cats, but don't expect all ferals to respond this well to domestic life or quickly. We were lucky with Phoebe as she is young (?1 year) and we gave her a 'tent' within their own room and waited patiently for her to approach us.
This is wonderful! I love it. Hobblitt and her sisters are also feral cats, which we found at 5 weeks on the side of the road.
Sadly, Hobblitt will no longer be fetching her foil ball for us -- we lost her to cancer about 1 month ago. She was only 8 years old, and I miss her so very, very much. Your video has brought back a lot of memories and I hope that you cherish ever moment with your little fetcher.

Thank you, bunktrudy. Am so sorry you lost your special little one. Bless her. And having lost my previous beloved feline friend to cancer last year, yes, absolutely every moment with these two special creatures is treasured. Even the (too) early morning 'feed me' alarm call. Most days at least :)
