Over hundreds of years "Tai" is became Thai ,and "Tai-lao" became just Lao. As of how the word "Thailand" became about?. during 16 centure British became influantial in South East Asia especially Thai people so they called the country "Thailand"

Do you know the word " Thai" has been existed in Lao language a lot and we have used this word for many thousand years. Thai is AN ARTICLE in ancient Lao word and no meaning at all if you use by itself, for example we call Thai neua, thai tay, thai lao, thai lua, , Phouthai, thai dam, and etc. Of course this word means a lot now especially the way they translate it. When was "Thailand" exists and became the name, and why Thai? Does anyone has the answers for these?
