EIA's Executive Director, Alexander von Bismarck, testified at the legislative hearing on H.R. 1497 - The Legal Timber Protection Act.
In this video Mr. von Bismarck describes how the trade in illegal timber affects the environment, people worldwide and companies. Mr. von Bismarck suggests it is time for the United States government to take action and to curb its role in driving illegal timber trade profit.

  • The illegal timber trade is destroying the earth's last remaining tropical forests, with devastaing consequences for both native communities and the global environment. As this testiomony points out, the illiegal timber trade is driven by demand for tropical hardwood lumber products right here at home - we in the US need to get our act together and demand that our government do its part to stop illegal timber imports.
