i know a bunch of folks who have or are living out this song male and female including the love my life ex wife junkie sharon Kris has a way of expressing just what feels like to down and oput on th e unfriendly streets of a mean town for a guy who has seemingly succeeded at everything hes tryed he seems to understand what it feels like to be a "loser" he's a terrible actor but possible other than maybe john prine the best wirter of working class songs

This song has been a part of my life since it came out. Growing up the theme song for me and my 3 best friends. We even sang it together at my daughter's wedding. Will be played at all our funerals. One of the best songs ever. Thanks Kris.

@drdoyle1000 Its easy to see your point of view. but remember kris was a poet and a songwriter he didn't write this song to motivate anyone.he wrote about how it is. not to say you should strive for failure. but it certainly gives a clever insight on reality. and i respect him for going there.
