I agree with you completely! I think this is one of Katherine's best performances. I'm not sure if the "higher vocal parts" blend (or gel) completely, with the other parts, but she does do an excellent job of remaking this song.
I can't imagine anyone else who would try to sing this Madonna song (one of Madonna's best songs, ever)?

She has a superior voice and sings it better than Madonna all around.
However the switches into operatic are too abrupt and discordant imho.
Also, I am not a puritan but she sings WAY too nasally.
For whoever cannot tell the difference, check around 00:50 - she is singing the "mmm" through the nose than switches to singing normally "we'll never be.." - sounds almost the same.
